Most people have no understanding of how many bacteria live inside them. I am not talking only about the germs that make us sick, but also the germs that help the human body stay healthy. I have read that there are more than a trillion bacteria that live inside your digestive system. Some of them are good and some of them are bad.
Probiotics are what we call those good bacteria. You may have heard experts refer to this process of providing balance to your digestive tract. They talk about this being a good thing and how this balance helps to keep you healthy on a daily basis. I have also read that when your colon is not in balance you may experience many of the symptoms such as bloating, diarrhea, gas, and painful cramping. My wife was so concerned that the had to see a doctor. What my doctor told me was that I had IBS or irritable bowel syndrome.
What I did not realize at the time is that there is also something discovered in 1995 that is called prebiotics. You see, prebiotics is soluble fiber that feeds the probiotics in your body. This is not to be confused with the insoluble fiber that keeps you regular and improves your health by cleaning out your digestive tract.
The advantage of making sure you have a lot of prebiotics to your diet is that it will feed thousands of other beneficial bacteria that are already living in your colon. In fact, research indicates that you can naturally improve the balance of your microbes that are living in your colon by increasing the prebiotics in your diet. To do this you have two choices. Eat the right foods that include prebiotics in them, or find a natural prebiotic supplement.
I found a really good prebiotic supplement. As time passed I noticed I getting diarrhea as often as I did before. By taking my prebiotic supplements for a little a month I found I didn't get diarrhea any longer on a regular basis. I decided that this digestive balance that the doctors talked about was real after all. It was possible to improve my digestive health by taking prebiotic supplements.
I personally concluded that everyone should use prebiotics to naturally treat the symptoms of their IBS. I am not a doctor so I can not offer any medical advise, but I can tell you what I think helped me.
